The BBWLs (Beautiful BIPOC Women Leaders) Are Tired!
Since the beginning of 2025 nearly 300,000 women of color ( in particularly black women) have been disproportionately affected by policies changes, federal spending cuts, and the dismantling of various diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in our public and private sectors.
This, however, is not meant to be a political statement, but it is a statement of fact and I know right now that a great many of my “sisters” are kinda in their feelings right now and rightfully so. I also know that some of you may be among the displaced workers, while others maybe in a state of limbo just waiting and wondering when you might be next.
That’s okay, sis, be in your feelings…for now, and know that it’s normal to feel a little uncomfortable with your future right now, we are all collectively feeling these pangs of sadness, anxiety, and uncertainty, but at some point you gotta get back up, you gotta get motivated & moving, and we ALL need to do what we do best; thrive on the scraps we’ve been given.
From Scraps to Successes
But let me tell you a little something about scraps, as a young child I was always quite impressed with how my mother could make a hamburger taste like a steak. She always took what scraps she had and she always used them to create the best possible experience she could for both me and my brother growing up. It is because of her and from her life lessons about grit and grind that I am where I am today and I believe my brother would agree.
The truth is, we as a society of women, women of color and women of geographically diverse backgrounds, have dealt with worse, we know this, and yet it still stings a bit. Moreover, I also fully understand that it is a very uncomfortable place to be in, but what I also know as our truth is that we have always risen to the occasions of our lives and this time is no different. We MUST once again rise!
